Ms Biles first began to hone her love of tumbling on the swing in her foster parents’ home in Ohio, at the age of three. She lived there for less than a year, when it became clear that her biological mother, who struggled with substance abuse, could not look after her and her siblings. Tevin, her brother, would push her high on the swing and let her backflip off the seat. In 2000 Ms Biles’s biological grandfather, Ron Biles, and his wife, Nellie, brought Ms Biles to live with them in Texas, and later adopted her and her younger sister, Adria.
