The $550 6-cup IH twin-pressure rice cooker has the most features and deftly prepares white, brown and even multigrain blends with beans and barley. It has more than 20 settings for making baby food, thin and thick porridges, and Korean specialties like crispy scorched rice. The latter, in which the bottom layer of rice toasts to a crisp on the bottom of the cooking vessel, is known as nurungji and is typically eaten with braised chicken, consumed plain as a snack or even made into tea. The Cuckoo has additional submenus that are not explained in English in its manual. That’s a shame, because some of them are fun. I hate to think that anybody needing a nurungji fix is missing out on “Turbo scorched rice.”
