When you adopt empathy in the workplace, you expose yourself to the emotional ups and downs of everyone you manage—a welter of joy, anxiety, anger, self-doubt, fear, confusion, exuberance, jealousy, sadness, disappointment, and more. The 2020s, with all their challenges, have left employees stressed, exhausted, and pushed to the brink. When the people around us suffer, the empathy helmet becomes much heavier.
