After 30 years of sustained growth, the wine industry took a beating last year. The number of US wineries declined in 2024 (with the West Coast’s count dropping 4.3%, from roughly 7,000). Direct-to-consumer sales fell sharply in Napa Valley and Sonoma and are down again this year by as much as 10%, says Andrew Adams, editor at WineBusiness Analytics, who also noted a drop in attendance at tasting rooms.
