While poking at a cardboard bowl of lunchtime greens, Ek marvels at homo sapiens’ capacity for change. What he loves about humanity, he tells Bloomberg Businessweek, is how fast something can go from “totally crazy” to something we “take for granted”—such as shooting the breeze with an artificial intelligence. Already, for example, his mom is hooked on ChatGPT. “Like, it’s literally her best friend,” Ek says. “And my wife—the same thing, right? And none of them are very tech-forward people.”
