As spring training games begin this week in Arizona and Florida, Russo is far from alone in feeling that the economics of baseball are broken—and that the Dodgers are trampling on the wreckage. The Dodgers enter the season as the most expensive assemblage of talent in MLB history. Including luxury taxes, imposed by the league for surpassing a $244 million spending threshold, their wage bill will be more than $550 million. The taxes alone, about $150 million, are more than the total payroll of 12 teams, according to Spotrac.
