The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. once wrote, “We must learn that to expect God to do everything while we do nothing is not faith but superstition.” Thus, praying over human-made and human-solvable problems ignores the God-given power of each individual to interact with and improve their social world. If we all began trusting our neighbors and working together to build better communities, we could pray to God for the unknowable and look to each other for the solvable.
