This spring the museum is giving Anderson his first major solo show; it will feature more than 80 paintings, some never shown, that marry the real and the imaginary in landscapes that traverse the Atlantic – and move the viewer. “My struggle with Jamaica: I know it and I don’t know it,” the artist told the FT’s critic Jackie Wullschläger in 2021. “I have this romantic vision of it and a lot of [my] painting is fighting that romance.”
