The Fed currently owns $6.6tn in Treasuries and Agency securities. That is down from a peak of $9tn four years ago, but it’s still a lot. It’s about a fifth of the total Treasuries and agencies outstanding. For scale, all the credit assets held by all commercial banks in the US come to $19tn.
