Red’s impact has been noted in other fields. A 2005 study by Durham University academics found that sports teams wearing it had a greater probability of winning — football’s current UK premiership leaders, Arsenal, bear this out. In her book, The Secret Lives of Colour (2016), cultural historian Kassia St Clair cites research from the hospitality industry that found if female waiting staff wore red, tips from male patrons increased 26 per cent (female diners were found to be unaffected).
