The board, which was created last year by a UN Security Council resolution concerning the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire, is formally authorised to exist only until the end of 2027. But the board’s charter fails to mention Gaza or the UN and it talks in very general terms about building peace in areas affected or threatened by conflict, suggesting aspirations to serve as an international organisation far beyond the Middle East.
