Let’s be clear. Before this, I didn’t think you should have a TV in your sleeping area. My sense had long been that it was fine in a sitting room, fit for the arena of daytime relaxation and socialising, but the bedroom itself should be somehow, well, purer: calm, adult, contemplative, suitable for grown-up activities like folding clothes or sex. I certainly didn’t think it was for the braying of The Traitors. This was a place where you should read and ruminate and shut out the outside world. I realise now it was a bit of a cell.
