As the year came to a close, rolling blackouts of up to eight hours a day had prostrated the country for no fewer than 280 days. Power cuts had brought much of industry to a standstill and were pushing the long-stagnant economy deeper into recession. There was even fear the entire grid could collapse, potentially plunging the socially charged country into chaos.
