Rigby and First recommend that companies focus instead on sensing change and adjusting to it as needed, similar to the adaptive ecosystems found in nature. To do this, organizations must develop their ability to do four things: (1) master systems management, (2) detect emerging realities before transformation becomes the only option, (3) increase agility in order to keep problems small, and (4) grow value—rather than just shifting it from one stakeholder group to another.
