The man wondered if it was his workouts. For most of his life, he had been indifferent to the condition of his body; by middle age he had put on a lot of weight. His doctors, and the mirror, told him he was obese, but it hadn’t mattered to him. He thought of himself as a “numbers guy,” a banker. Successful. Happily married, with three children.
