Without a kitchen on-site, Keeling sold packaged food, protein shakes and smoothies alongside supplements, hair products and medicinal herbs. The store, he says, was the first in the area to focus on health and nutrition, and — at a time when Angelenos were deeply invested in Jane Fonda workout videos, macrobiotic diets and aerobics classes — it was a success from the start, with celebrities and future stars among the early clientele. A photograph of Keeling with Muhammad Ali, who shopped there on a number of occasions, still hangs on the wall today. The rapper Nipsey Hussle and the R&B artist Jhené Aiko both frequented the place as kids.
