Perhaps not one like Ray, though, a golden god in a skintight leather racing suit. His dominance over Colin is assured as soon as the suit is unzipped and its contents proffered, Nick Morris’s camera holding tight to Colin’s enraptured face. And Melling, with his tumble of dark curls — soon to be sacrificed to Colin’s new lifestyle — and trusting gaze, gives the character an innocence that’s deeply endearing. An eager pupil, Colin settles in to Ray’s coldly furnished flat, his education in obedience beginning with a list of chores and the instruction to make dinner. In short order, there’s a chain and padlock around his neck and another, less visible accessory lodged further south.
