Senate Approves Spending Deal Ahead of Partial Government Shutdown

Senators voted 71-29 to pass a $1.2 trillion package of five bills funding a slew of agencies through September and a sixth to provide two weeks of funding for the Department of Homeland Security. The measure still needs to be approved by the House, which isn’t expected to return until Monday, setting the stage for at least a brief shutdown starting at 12:01 a.m. Saturday and running over the weekend.
